Here are some journal entries by the children on the topic,
"If I were a Talking Marine Creature, I would be a ... "

There's quite a variety of marine creatures that the children chose but I guess the most popular would be the dolphin =)

All entries and pictures were unedited (in children's own words, spelling errors and all) and many of them gave rather thought provoking opinions. I realized we have many environmentalists in the making as I read their views on pollution, conservation and improvement of the environment. I'm impressed, kids! Well done! =)

If I were a talking marine creature, I would be a...
dolphine! I would be dolphine because I can jump and turn around. I also can whistle. I can swim so fast that my friend can’t even swim faster than me. There are lots of different kind of dolphine such as common dolphine, Orca, Spotted dolphine, Bottlenose dolphine and Beluga. I would be a Beluga because everyone would think I’m so cute.

If I were a talking marine creature, I would be a crab. I would talk to lobsters and other crabs because we are friends. I like to be a crab if I were a talking marine creature because, I can catch fish and eat them raw. If there was a big wave coming I can claw on to something thin and small such as a wire. I am terrified when a predator chases me, but I can talk my way out so that the predator will forget what it is doing and swim away.

If I were a talking marine creature I would be a dolphin. I would teach children how to swim and do flips in the water. I would tell children stories about sea creatures, share jokes and teach them their A-B-C and 1-2-3 in dolphin language.

I would be the most famous dolphin teacher in the world.

If I were a talking marine creature, I would be a .........
Swordfish because I like to poke other sea creatures. I like swimming fast because I am the fastest fish in the world. I have a long sword-like extended upper jaw that is used mainly as a means of defence and attack. I swim to the warmer waters in the winter and cooler waters in the summer. I often bask on the water’s surface, and my fins are sometimes mistaken as those of sharks.

If I were a talking marine creature,
I would be a talking Killer whale! I would ask the fishermen to stop catching fish with nets because my friends will want to eat fish and they will get tangled up in their nets.

I will also ask other dolphins and sealions to stop swimming when I come near them so that I would not have to hunt so hard. I would also ask the blue whale to stop eating so much so that I can attack him easily.

I will also ask people to stop throwing rubbish in the sea so that I can survive.

If I were a talking marine creature I would be a turtle. I would hide in my shell when I am in danger. Everyday, I would swim in the vast ocean. I would find my other friends and swim with them together. I would also play catching with them in the deep blue sea and find beautiful shells and pearls. I would also have a collection of the shells and pearls. If I were a talking turtle, I would like to teach a school of fish. I would teach them how to swim in groups of ten. To teach them two plus three equals five, I would ask two male fish and three female fish to swim together. During break time, friendly Mr. Whale, the magician will show them some magic tricks. I wish I could be a turtle.

If I were a talking marine creature I would be a Octopus. I would swim with my friend Mei Jia crab. We would hunt for our food together and we will help each other. We would also play games together. When there is danger, I will shoot out a kind of black ink then we will swim away. We will also look at peoples lifestyle. We hope that divers would not catch us.

If I were a talking marine creature I would be a SEAHORSE! I want to be a seahorse because I like it. It can change to many different kinds of colours. A male seahorse gives birth to is young, not a female! It can give birth to as many as two hundred babies at a time. When they are in danger they will camerflage themselves in the seaweeds. They like to eat live creatures like fishes and shrims. I also will find my frinds to play with them. I really like SEAHORSE!

Dolphin!

I would like to be a dolphin because I love to dance and the way dolphins leap out of the water, its like I’m dancing.

Dolphins have a streamline body, which means that their body is slim and suitable for swimming. Which also means that it can easily jump out of the water. Dolphins are very smart that they can do tricks! Of course, they need to be trained so they know what to do. Dolphins are very friendly so people can play with them. When I play swim, I pretend to be a dolphin!

If I were a talking marine creature I would be a penguin. I can live where it is very cold, like the North and South pole, and where it is warm like the Galapagos island. When I swim underwater, I can hold my breath for six minutes and I can swim almost forty miles an hour. I will swim up to the human beings and tell them to stop destroying the earth’s natural environment. They should stop catching so many fishes or we will have little left food. A lot of my friends, the whales dolphins and seals are caught in the net and have lost their lives. Humans should also stop destroying the beautiful coral reefs and polluting the sea with trash, oil and toxic chemicals. We should all protect and conserve our beautiful earth.

If I were a talking marine creature I would be a turtle.
I would be a turtle because I love turtles. I love them because They are gentle. They swim with their flippers. Their shells protect them from danger. We can see them in many different types. Their vision underwater is very good but they are near sighted out of water. They hear best at low frequencies and it’s sense of smell is excellent. Thus I like turtles very much.
