If I Were A Butterfly/Honey Bee/Mosquito...

Here are some journal entries by the children on the topic,
"If I were a Butterfly/Honey Bee/Mosquito ... "

All entries and pictures were unedited (in children's own words, spelling errors and all) and once again, I'm very impressed and intrigued by the way they perceive the insects and the lives they have. Great job, children! =)

*I have obtained permission from the pupils to publish their works.

If I were a honeybee I would fly around and collect nectar. I would like imagine that I am a honeybee flying around. I like to be a honeybee because I can fly around freely. It is so fun to fly around. I really want to taste nectar. I really really want to be a honeybee. There are many intesting things waiting for me if I become a honeybee.

If I were a honeybee I would start my life with an egg. Then, I would hatch out into a larva and eat pollen, nector, honey and bee bread. After that, in my development stage I would turn into a pupa and later a honeybee. Then, from flower to flower I will fly happily to collect nector to bring back to my hive and make honey. I would also protect the hive from dangerous predators such as grizzly bears.

If I were a butterfly I would be a butterfly in blue all over and have red spots. I will flutter around and meet my butterflies friends. We will fly around a garden with lots of flowers. We will fly near the flowers and drink the nectar. We would suck the nectar through our proboscis. We would enjoy it. I would have go through four stages. The first stage was the egg. After I hatch from my egg, I would eat my eggshell. The second stage was the larva or caterpillar stage. I would eat lots of green and juicy leaves. The third stage was the pupa stage. I would spin a layer of skin around my body. After a few weeks, I will come out. Can you guess what I am? Yes, I am the butterfly. And of course, (you know) the last stage was the butterfly stage. I like being a butterfly. What about you?

If I were a honeybee,
I know just what to do.
I’ll fly from flower to another and get some nectar for you.
I”ll bring the nectar to my hive and make it into honey.
I’ll give it to anyone who needs it for its tummy.

If I were a mosquito I would like to suck people’s blood and I would sleep in an old barnyard. In the daytime I would fly around looking for blood to suck. I could fly up high and see people with tasty blood to suck. There are so many thing I could do if I really were a mosquito.

If I were a honey bee, I would be a very busy bee.
I would wake up very early in the morning to collect nectar. With the nectar, I would make honey. My honey would be the best in the entire bee world!
If my enemy tried to steal my honey, I would protect my nest. I would not hestitate to use my formidable sting. I would sharpen my sting daily so that I would be ready to defend my nest at all times. I would be the best bee in the entire bee world!

If I were an insect, I would like to be a butterfly. My life begins as an egg followed by a caterpillar. Then a pupa and finally a butterfly. I would be a butterfly postman that delivers mail to people all over the world and I will become the most famous butterfly postman in the entire world.

If I were a butterfly I must first go through a few growth stages. First, my mummy butterfly lays me as an egg. From an egg I turn into a caterpillar. Then I form a chrysalis. A few days later I turn into a beautiful butterfly.

Everyday I fly from flower to flower collecting delicious pollen. I am also helping to pollinate the flowers. I use my proboscis to reach the nectar.

I enjoy myself fluttering around with the other butterflies.

I would want to be a honey bee. I will land on a flower, stretch out my long proboscis and suck up the nectar. Yummy! It’s so sweet and delicious! As I push onto the flower, pollen falls onto my hairy body. Then, I fly to my hive. Inside the hive, there are thousands of tiny rooms. Some are filled with honey or pollen. Others contain eggs or bee larvae. I will be a friendly bee. I will not sting anyone because I will die!
